Mission

The Sheriff’s Office Mission is to serve the citizens of Cecil County and ensure public safety.  As a division of the Sheriff’s Office, the Detention Center’s mission is to provide a clean, safe and secure place of confinement for persons committed or adjudicated to our facility by proper authority of law.

History

The Detention Center was built in 1983 and began operation in 1984.  The facility was designed to house a total 142 inmates, both male and female from minimum to maximum-security levels.  Persons held at the Detention Center are either awaiting trial or have been convicted and received sentences of up to 18 months.

A staff of 58 correctional officers and personnel ensure the safety and security of inmates and facilitate the services offered to them.
